CONTINUING THE BUILDING’S CREATIVE LEGACY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PATTERN.

The Stutz has a rich history as a hub for art and creativity. Originally built in 1911 as the Stutz Motor Car Company, it later transformed into a haven for artists and businesses in the 1990s. Today, the building is undergoing a major redevelopment that preserves its historic character while creating a modern and inviting space for businesses and creatives to collaborate.

As part of the redevelopment, and to evolve the face of the creative Stutz for the 21st century, the building’s ownership has enlisted Pattern, an innovative and highly respected 501c3 nonprofit focused on growing the creative economy, and supporting creatives of all kinds. Pattern’s role includes running the S.P.A.C.E. program, public art commissioning, Stutz events & activations as well as internal & external community engagement.

Pattern, which is headquartered at the Stutz, is proud to help carry forward the building’s legacy as a vibrant center for art and creativity.

65/70 RIFF INSTALLATION

As part of the City of Indianapolis Public Art for Neighborhoods Program (PAFN), a committee of local community members, selected Indianapolis-based artists, Brian McCutcheon and Julian Jamaal Jones to design and fabricate a new permanent installation exploring the often-overlooked stories of urban disruption caused by transportation development. Located outside of Maker’s Alley on the building’s east side near the I-65 highway, the large-scale industrial artwork seeks to promote awareness and understanding, all while celebrating the city's automotive manufacturing legacy.

THE STUTZ ARTISTS ASSOCIATION

The Stutz Artists Association is a non-profit organization created to support and promote the Stutz artists through open studio events and the annual spring open house. Our mission is to enhance, support, and inspire purposeful engagement in the arts in and surrounding communities through its diverse membership of artists, individuals and businesses, as well as educational and civic partnerships.

BUTTER ART FAIR

BUTTER

BUTTER is a multi-day fine art fair and celebration founded by GANGGANG that seeks to elevate Black artists in the national conversation by inviting local artists to exhibit and sell work alongside artists from all over the world. Unlike other art shows, BUTTER was founded with an equitable and reparational process, taking no commissions for any of the works sold. The Stutz has hosted all the BUTTER events.
